Setting up reverse DNS (PTR) records
Self-service rDNS from the client area, and why it matters for mail delivery.
Set it
Services → your server → Network → Reverse DNS. Enter the fully qualified hostname and save. Propagation is typically under five minutes because we run the authoritative in-addr.arpa zones for our own allocations.
Make it match forward DNS
An rDNS record that does not resolve back to the same IP is worse than none at all for mail reputation. Both directions must agree:
# Forward
mail.example.com. A 198.51.100.24
# Reverse
24.100.51.198.in-addr.arpa. PTR mail.example.com.dig +short mail.example.com
dig +short -x 198.51.100.24Both commands should agree.
Port 25 and outbound mail
Port 25 is closed by default on all new instances to protect our ranges. To have it opened, submit a ticket describing what you will send, from which domain, and confirm you have SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured. Approval usually takes under an hour during business hours. Transactional and opt-in mail is fine; bulk cold outreach is not.
