# Prepare for an operating-system reinstall

Back up your data, confirm the image and review any licence charge before rebuilding.

## Protect the data first

Reinstalling replaces the operating system and can erase instance data. Save an independent copy and verify how to restore it before continuing.

## Choose the exact image

Review available versions, application compatibility and any licence supplement. Older images can have different support lifecycles. Confirm an OS switch with support when it changes your plan or billing.

## Verify the restored service

Use the service controls available for your order or contact support. After preparation, check access, updates, firewall rules and restored application data. Do not rely on a fixed rebuild-time estimate.
