# Connect to a Linux VPS with SSH

Use the assigned address and the authentication method selected for your Linux service.

## Confirm the destination

Use the IP and account details delivered for your instance. Check the server identity when first connecting and investigate unexpected host-key changes. Use the private counterpart of the public SSH key supplied for the order, if applicable.

## Test changes before closing access

Create and test any new administrative account or key while keeping an existing recovery path open. Review firewall rules before disabling another authentication method.

## Ask for help safely

Include the service reference, time and relevant error message. Do not send private keys or passwords. A public key and a private key are different: only a public key belongs in the configuration field.
