# Plan a change to the RDP listening port

Keep a recovery path, configure access rules and test before ending your current session.

## Prepare recovery

Back up important configuration and confirm how you can regain access if the change fails. Changing the port alone does not secure a Windows server.

## Coordinate the service and firewall

Follow the documentation for the installed Windows release. The listener, operating-system firewall and any upstream access rules must permit the chosen port. Keep the original session until the new path is tested.

## Record the new connection details

Update the client profile and team documentation, then test from the intended user connection. If access fails, use the recovery path or contact support with the service reference.
