## Confirm access before changing it

Use the credentials or public-key arrangement chosen for your service. Keep an existing session or recovery path while testing a new administrative account and authentication settings. Never paste a private SSH key into a ticket.

Use the distribution documentation to install security updates and confirm the support lifecycle. Review changes before restarting critical services. Do not assume every listed image has the same package names or support status.

## Limit exposed services

Allow only the access and application ports needed. Test new firewall rules from another connection before closing the recovery session. Run application processes with the least privilege they require.
